New deal, same old growth hunger
Choice Hotels International is making a $130 million bet on a different kind of traveler: the RV crowd. The company said Wednesday it agreed to acquire Harvest Hosts, an RV travel membership platform backed by Stripes and other shareholders.
Why this matters
This isn’t just a random side quest. Harvest Hosts gives Choice a foothold in outdoor and road-trip travel, which has been one of the more durable corners of leisure spending. If you’ve ever thought, “Hotels are hotels,” well, Choice is trying to make that sentence less true.
Bigger picture
For Choice, this looks like a classic strategic tuck-in: small enough to digest, but potentially useful for cross-selling and keeping customers inside its ecosystem. The real question is whether the company can turn a niche travel brand into actual incremental growth instead of a shiny new logo on the website.
Big picture: travel companies keep hunting for new ways to own more of your vacation budget, and Choice just bought itself a ticket to the campground.
