Cargo just called, and Boeing answered
Boeing said Ethiopian Airlines placed a firm order for eight 777-8 Freighters and two 777 Freighters, giving the plane maker another chunky win in its commercial aircraft backlog.
Why this matters
If you own BA, the headline here is simple: orders are the oxygen tank. A fresh freighter deal doesn't fix Boeing's broader operational drama, but it does help keep the pipeline full and the cash-flow story from looking too lonely.
The bigger picture
Ethiopian Airlines said it’s the first African carrier to buy the 777-8 Freighter, which is the kind of branding Boeing loves because it makes the plane sound like the VIP section of cargo aviation. And because this is the newest widebody freighter in the mix, the order also hints at continued demand for long-haul cargo capacity.
- Eight 777-8 Freighters
- Two 777 Freighters
- A doubled 777X family order book for Ethiopian Airlines
Big picture: Boeing doesn’t need every headline to be a home run, but it does need enough of these to keep the story from being all turbulence, all the time.
