New hire, new goodies
Achieve Life Sciences said its board approved stock option grants for 46,500 shares and RSUs covering another 44,500 shares for four new employees. Translation: welcome aboard, here’s some equity, please don’t ghost us.
The CFO gets the VIP treatment
The biggest chunk goes to Benjamin Halladay, the company’s newly appointed chief financial officer. His inducement package includes options to buy up to 200,000 shares plus 200,000 RSUs, which is the kind of compensation package that says, "please settle in, we’d like you to stay awhile."
Why investors should care
For shareholders, the headline isn’t just about human resources with a fancier font. Equity awards can mean dilution down the road, and when a small biotech is handing out stock to attract talent, it also hints that management is still in build-mode rather than cruise-control mode.
Big picture: Achieve is trying to keep the team happy while it pushes its nicotine-dependence drug story forward. Nice for the company, mildly annoying for the cap table.
