Turn it on, apparently
Jack Dorsey didn’t exactly whisper this one. The Block CEO told users to “turn it on” after Cash App unveiled a new Bitcoin bonus feature, a little rewards carrot for people who keep BTC in the app.
What’s the deal?
Here’s the gist:
- Users can opt in through the Bitcoin tab
- Rewards can reach up to 2% in BTC annually
- The setup avoids the usual crypto baggage: no lockup, no lending, no staking, no moving coins around
- The bonuses are taxable, because of course the IRS never misses a party
Why investors should care
Cash App is Block’s consumer engine, so anything that makes the app stickier matters. The company says Cash App’s second-quarter volume rose 17% to $56.5 billion, while consumer lending origination volume jumped 59% to $18.9 billion.
That’s the real story here: Block is trying to turn Bitcoin from a checkbox feature into a reason to live inside Cash App. If users buy in, it could boost engagement, retention, and maybe even crypto-related activity. If they don’t, it’s just another shiny button in an app crowded with shiny buttons.
Big picture: Block keeps betting that Bitcoin is more than a trade — it’s a product feature, a brand statement, and maybe a loyalty hook all rolled into one.
