The chart is already sweating
AppLovin’s stock is having a rough day, and not in a cute, 'markets are wobbly' way. Shares sank to a fresh 52-week low, extending a downtrend that’s been chewing through support levels like a raccoon in a snack drawer.
So what set it off?
The big headline: AppLovin filed for a temporary restraining order against Unity in California court, accusing Unity’s Ad Quality software of improperly collecting data tied to AppLovin’s ads. That allegedly included details on creatives, users, devices, revenue, and engagement — basically the kind of data you’d really rather your competitor not have.
AppLovin says Unity used that information to sharpen its own models and compete against it in mobile ad auctions. Unity, for its part, fired back with a spokesperson statement calling the suit a 'classic case' of a dominant incumbent using litigation and intimidation to fend off competition and slower growth. Translation: nobody’s playing nice.
Why investors should care
This is more than a legal slap fight. AppLovin is also pushing arbitration claims for breach of contract, trade-secret misappropriation, and unfair competition. If the allegations gain traction, it could raise questions about how AppLovin protects its data and how much friction is building in its ad-tech business.
Meanwhile, the stock’s technical picture looks about as cheerful as a rainy Monday. It’s below every major moving average, the 20-day is under the 50-day, and the old March death cross is still hanging around like that one bad group project. Big picture: when the legal heat meets a broken chart, investors tend to notice.
