New gear, same old game: sell more stuff to the big guys
Harmonic says its new Recon product family was developed in partnership with Comcast, which is corporate-speak for: “we made this with a giant customer and now we’re hoping everyone else wants it too.”
That matters because partnerships like this can do two things at once:
- validate the product in the eyes of other buyers
- deepen the relationship with a heavyweight customer
Why investors should care
If Comcast is involved in shaping the product, that can be a pretty useful stamp of approval. It doesn’t guarantee a revenue bonanza, of course — tech companies love a good launch party almost as much as they love a pipeline slide — but it can make it easier for Harmonic to push the Recon family into other operators and broadband customers.
The bigger angle
For Comcast, this is another reminder that the company is still influencing the broadband and network tech ecosystem even while the market obsesses over its bigger strategic moves. For Harmonic, the opportunity is simple: turn one partnership into a broader sales story.
Big picture: sometimes the best product marketing is just getting a giant company to help you build the thing in the first place.
