New data, big reaction
Vaxcyte came out swinging on Monday, and the market responded like someone just dropped a surprise dessert cart at the end of a long dinner. The company said its pivotal Phase 3 OPUS-1 trial for VAX-31 met all prespecified co-primary immunogenicity endpoints in adults 50 and older.
That matters because this isn’t just a nice little science update — it’s the kind of result that can help turn a vaccine candidate into a real regulatory story. Management said the data will underpin an upcoming Biologics License Application to the FDA, which is the next big gate on the road from lab bench to market shelf.
Why investors are leaning in
The trial didn’t just squeak by. VAX-31 showed noninferiority across the shared serotypes versus Pfizer’s Prevnar 20 and Merck’s Capvaxive, and in some cases it even showed superiority for the unique serotypes. Safety looked solid too, with mostly mild-to-moderate reactions and no vaccine-related serious adverse events.
For investors, that combo is the sweet spot: efficacy that holds up, safety that doesn’t scare everyone out of the room, and a clean path to the next regulatory milestone.
The setup from here
Vaxcyte still has more cards to play, with OPUS-2 and OPUS-3 adult Phase 3 data due in the first half of 2027 and infant Phase 2 results expected by the end of the first half of 2027. But for now, Monday’s 56.91% premarket jump to $88.62 says the market thinks this vaccine story just got a lot more real.
Big picture: when a biotech gets clean late-stage data and a clearer FDA path, the stock can go from sleepy to caffeinated in a hurry.
