New deal, bigger voltage
Navitas and Microchip are cooking up an 800V reference design for next-gen AI data centers. Translation: they’re trying to make rack power systems more efficient, faster to deploy, and less of a heat-generating science project.
The setup combines Navitas’ GaN tech, digital power control, and hardware-based security with Microchip’s stack. The whole point is to accelerate development around the 800V DC OCP standard, which is the kind of plumbing that doesn’t get movie trailers but absolutely matters when AI racks start guzzling electricity like a teenager on soda.
Why investors should care
If this design catches on, it could help Navitas deepen its role in the datacenter power chain, especially as AI infrastructure keeps demanding denser and more efficient power delivery.
- More AI hardware means more pressure on power systems
- Better efficiency can mean lower operating costs for hyperscalers
- Partnerships like this can make smaller chip names look more strategically relevant than their market caps suggest
Big picture
This is still a partnership announcement, not a revenue firework. But in AI infrastructure, being in the room early can matter almost as much as shipping the final product.
