Big tech said, ‘my turn’
Stocks mostly climbed because the giant tech names decided to do the cardio for everyone else. The S&P 500 even edged toward a record, helped by a 1.3% pop in the megacap gauge — which is Wall Street shorthand for “the usual suspects are carrying the couch again.”
The stuff that should have ruined the mood
Normally, elevated oil prices and renewed bond losses would be enough to make traders reach for the stress snacks. Higher yields can make future profits look less shiny, and expensive oil is basically the market’s way of hearing ominous footsteps in a horror movie.
But nope. The tech rally was strong enough to drown out the grumbling, at least for now.
Why you should care
This kind of tape tells you the market is still leaning heavily on a handful of giant companies to keep the indexes looking healthy. That can be great until it isn’t: if tech stumbles, the “market” can suddenly feel a lot less broad and a lot more top-heavy.
Big picture: when megacaps are in a buying mood, they can make the whole street look calm even when the plumbing underneath is still hissing.
