New lease, same appetite
The Ensign Group just added another chess piece to its long-running healthcare real estate game. This time, it’s a 15-year triple net lease for seven skilled nursing facilities in Colorado, covering 807 licensed units.
The deal was struck with Diversified Healthcare Trust, and it’s effective October 1st, 2026. Ensign’s independent operating subsidiaries will run the facilities, and the company itself is guaranteeing the lease — corporate-speak for: it’s not just dabbling here.
Why investors should care
A triple net lease is basically the real-estate version of "you break it, you buy it." The operator takes on more costs and more responsibility, while the landlord gets more predictable cash flow. For Ensign, this looks like another way to keep expanding without having to own the whole castle outright.
That matters because Ensign has been busy lately:
- It just landed a new presence in Florida
- It expanded in Washington
- Now it’s locking in Colorado
That’s a lot of map-pin energy in two weeks.
Big picture
This deal suggests Ensign is still leaning into growth through real-estate-backed operating deals instead of flashy one-time headlines. If you own the stock, you probably like the consistency. If you don’t, well, Ensign is clearly not in a mood to sit still.
