New partner, same big dream
Quantum BioPharma just lined up Thermo Fisher’s PPD clinical research business to help kick off a Phase 2 trial for Lucid-MS, its multiple sclerosis treatment. That means study start-up, clinical research services, and the kind of operational heavy lifting that makes a trial actually happen instead of just living in a press release.
Why this matters
Lucid-MS is being tested in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study for progressive forms of multiple sclerosis — the tough stuff, not the easy layup version. The goal is to see whether the drug can safely and effectively slow down the disease using clinical and radiological markers tied to progression.
The science-y part, minus the lab coat
The company says Lucid-MS is a first-in-class molecule aimed at stopping myelin breakdown by targeting the PAD2 enzyme. Translation: it’s trying to protect the nervous system from the wear-and-tear that makes MS such a brutal opponent.
- The FDA recently cleared the program, which is the green light investors wanted to hear.
- The trial is now moving from “promising concept” to “let’s see if patients actually benefit.”
- Thermo Fisher isn’t the star of the show, but it’s a meaningful counterparty because it’s helping get the trial off the ground.
Big picture: for QNTM, this is another step out of the lab and into the long, expensive, highly scrutinized road toward a potential therapy. And in biotech, that road is basically the whole game.
