New high, same old AI adrenaline
AMD is having one of those days where the stock chart looks like it drank three espressos. Shares hit a fresh record after CEO Lisa Su said chip demand should stay “very high” over the coming years, and Wall Street promptly started tossing around higher price targets like confetti.
Why the Street is getting excited
This isn’t just vibe-based optimism. The company is leaning into the idea that AI and high-performance computing demand still have plenty of runway, and analysts at Citigroup and Mizuho apparently liked the story enough to bump their targets.
That matters because when AMD gets more love from leadership and the Street at the same time, traders usually hear one thing: maybe the AI chip party isn’t over yet.
The catch: expectations are now chunky
The flip side is pretty simple. Once a stock hits an all-time high on bullish commentary, the bar gets raised to cartoonish levels. AMD now has to keep delivering on growth, product execution, and whatever the market decides counts as “enough AI” this quarter.
- More demand talk can support the multiple.
- More analyst target hikes can keep momentum traders interested.
- But if the numbers don’t back up the story, the air can come out fast.
Big picture: AMD’s latest pop is a reminder that in semis, narrative and numbers are in a constant arm-wrestling match—and right now, narrative is winning.
