Big watts, bigger appetite
Constellation Energy just announced power agreements with Google to supply roughly 3,600 megawatts onto the PJM Interconnection grid. That’s not a typo. That’s enough power to make your average data center feel like it just got handed a double espresso.
Why this matters
Google needs juice. Lots of it. And Constellation, already swimming in the AI-power narrative, is positioning itself as the utility that can keep the servers humming when everyone else is fighting over the same grid capacity.
For investors, the takeaway is pretty simple:
- More demand from hyperscalers means more long-dated revenue visibility for Constellation.
- Deals like this reinforce the idea that power generation, especially clean/nuclear-adjacent supply, is becoming a bottleneck-and-beneficiary in the AI boom.
- Alphabet gets to secure electricity for its growth engine, which is less glamorous than a new model launch but arguably more important.
The bigger picture
This isn’t just a one-off utility contract. It’s another reminder that the AI race has a very unsexy but very real constraint: electricity. If the models keep getting bigger, somebody’s got to keep the lights on.
Big picture: in the AI era, power is the picks-and-shovels trade nobody can ignore.
