OKX just turned into everybody’s favorite group project
OKX says it pulled in strategic investments from Ripple, Circle, Qube Research & Technologies and SC Ventures by Standard Chartered — all at a chunky $25 billion pre-money valuation. That’s not exactly couch-cushion money. It’s the kind of funding round that says, “We’re not just a crypto exchange anymore; we’re trying to be a whole financial rails machine.”
Why this matters: stablecoins are the new plumbing
The investors aren’t random trophy names. They map neatly onto the crypto stack:
- Circle brings USDC and stablecoin credibility.
- Ripple brings payments and liquidity infrastructure, plus RLUSD plugged into OKX’s unified order book.
- QRT adds liquidity and risk capacity.
- Standard Chartered’s SC Ventures brings custody and institutional finance muscle.
That mix matters because OKX is clearly building a bridge between speculative trading and the boring-but-valuable stuff like settlement, custody and cross-border payments. In finance, boring often means profitable. Just ask the banks.
OKX Money wants to be more than an exchange app
On top of the investment news, OKX launched OKX Money, a standalone platform that lets users convert more than 50 local currencies into dollar-backed stablecoins. It’s aimed at users in Latin America, Africa, South Asia and the Middle East — places where currency volatility and banking friction make “just use dollars” sound a lot more appealing than it does in a Manhattan conference room.
The platform also offers:
- cards with no FX markup
- up to 10% annual yield on eligible USDG balances
- stablecoin rails for payments and savings
Big picture: OKX is trying to make stablecoins feel less like a crypto novelty and more like the toll roads of global money movement. And if that works, the winners won’t just be exchanges — it’ll be the companies controlling the pipes.
