Another brick in the Shopify payments wall
Shopify just got a little more ambitious about how money moves through its platform. Croissant announced that Croissant Pay is now live inside Shopify Checkout and at the register through Shopify POS — plus other point-of-sale systems, because apparently one checkout lane wasn't enough.
Why this matters
If you're an investor, the interesting part isn't the fashion fluff. It's that Shopify keeps making itself more than a storefront builder. The company keeps sliding deeper into payments and commerce infrastructure, which is the kind of sticky stuff merchants don't rip out on a whim.
The luxury angle
Croissant says its members can register designer pieces and get store credit tied to resale value. SIMKHAI is among the first brands live on the integration, which makes this sound a little like fashion's version of a loyalty program crossed with a pawn shop — but, you know, fancy.
- Shopify gets another potential reason for merchants to stay inside its ecosystem
- Croissant gets distribution through a giant commerce platform
- Brands like SIMKHAI get a shinier checkout experience and a resale hook
Big picture: this looks small on paper, but these are the kinds of product integrations that quietly widen Shopify's moat one checkout at a time.
