Samsung's crypto wallet gets a new roommate
Samsung is bringing USDC support to Galaxy Wallet users in the U.S. in the last week of October, and Coinbase is doing the custody work through Coinbase Prime Vault. Translation: Samsung is making it easier for users to move stablecoins around without making the whole thing feel like a bunker operation.
Why investors should pay attention
This isn't just another feature drop. It nudges crypto one step closer to the boring, mainstream, "I guess my phone can do that now" phase that payment companies and exchanges have been chasing for years.
- Eligible users will be able to send USDC from Samsung Wallet to compatible international wallets without transfer fees.
- Samsung Wallet will also support transfers to qualifying bank accounts in more than 60 countries, with recipients getting local currency.
- The move builds on an existing Samsung-Coinbase relationship that already includes payment and benefit integrations.
The bigger picture
For Coinbase, this is another credibility flex: its infrastructure is sitting underneath a consumer wallet tied to one of the biggest phone makers on the planet. For Samsung, it’s one more way to keep Galaxy Wallet from being just a place where your loyalty cards go to die.
Big picture: if crypto is going to become everyday finance instead of a perpetual “coming soon” slide deck, partnerships like this are how it sneaks into your pocket.
