A fresh bull just wandered into the chat
BlackBerry didn’t exactly reinvent the smartphone, but it did get a new reason for traders to pay attention. AmerX analyst Casey Ryan kicked off coverage with a Buy rating and a $13.50 price target, and BB shares popped on the headline.
Why the analyst is leaning in
Ryan’s pitch is basically: the old BlackBerry story is getting a makeover. The analyst expects QNX, BlackBerry’s safety-focused real-time operating system, to keep selling better as automotive customers use more of it and as so-called physical AI applications spread into other industries.
That’s a fancy way of saying the market may be getting larger, stickier, and less boring than it used to be. The thesis also argues that physical AI could widen BlackBerry’s opportunity set and boost margins over time — the kind of stuff bulls love to pin to a long runway.
The valuation math, minus the headache
AmerX built the $13.50 target by comparing BlackBerry with royalty-style software and chip businesses that trade at rich multiples. In other words, the analyst is saying: if the business model gets more valuable and more recurring, the stock can earn a fancier price tag.
BlackBerry shares were up 1.6% to $8.91 when this hit the tape. Big picture: a single analyst call won’t rewrite the company’s destiny, but it can absolutely nudge the vibe — and in stocks, vibe is often half the battle.
