A little analyst love, a lot of Google karma
Unity Software got a Thursday boost after Raymond James upgraded the stock from Market Perform to Outperform and slapped on a $54 price target. The reason wasn’t mysterious: the firm thinks Unity’s freshly announced partnership with Google could change the game — literally.
Why the upgrade mattered
Raymond James analyst Andrew Marok said Unity’s outlook had already improved after stronger-than-expected results in its Grow business, plus better performance in Vector and operating leverage that came in ahead of expectations. In other words, the business is looking less like a science project and more like a company that may actually know where the exits are.
The Google deal was the extra push. Marok said pairing Unity’s Create and Runtime tech with Google’s AI tools and consumer reach could help Unity keep creators from drifting to easier tools, including rivals like Roblox and other generative AI platforms. If you’re an investor, that’s the real storyline: can Unity make its platform feel indispensable instead of merely useful?
The stock market version of a double take
Unity’s shares rose about 2% even as the broader market wobbled and tech stocks lost ground. That kind of relative strength doesn’t guarantee anything, but it does tell you traders liked the setup: better business momentum, a shiny partnership, and a fresh analyst endorsement all piled into one Thursday trade.
Big picture: Unity is trying to turn a nice software toolkit into a moat. Google may have just handed it another brick.
