Disney’s big-screen side quest
Disney isn’t just thinking about parks, streaming, or superheroes anymore. According to Bloomberg, the company is pitching rival studios on Infinity Vision, a large-format cinema concept meant to compete with IMAX. In other words: Disney apparently looked at the premium movie-going pie and decided it wanted a bigger slice — or maybe its own oven.
Why investors should care
This isn’t a needle-mover like a streaming subscriber update or a Marvel release date, but it’s still the kind of move that hints at where Disney wants optionality. If Infinity Vision gets traction, Disney could create a new premium-format revenue stream and strengthen its hand with studios and theaters looking for an IMAX alternative.
The competitive angle
IMAX has spent years turning “big screen” into a brand, not just a projector setting. Disney trying to pitch a rival format is a little like a theme park company saying, “Cool ride. We can build one too.” That doesn’t mean it wins — but it does mean Disney sees enough demand in premium theatrical experiences to at least try.
Big picture
For now, this is more strategic chess than immediate financial fireworks. But it does fit Disney’s broader habit of testing new ways to squeeze more value out of its content empire. If Infinity Vision gains real studio support, this could become one more lever in Disney’s ongoing mission to monetize everything that moves — and a few things that don’t.
