New toy, same Wall Street obsession
Securitize just rolled out Securitize Stocks, a new product that lets eligible investors trade tokenized versions of 12 major U.S. stocks on its registered broker-dealer platform. Translation: it’s trying to wrap familiar equities in blockchain packaging and make the whole thing feel a little more Web3, a little less “fax machine in a suit.”
Why Solana matters
For the launch, Securitize picked Solana as the first network and USDC as the settlement currency. The tokens are backed 1:1 by the underlying shares, so in theory you’re not buying some mystery meme coin dressed up as Apple—you’re buying a digital wrapper tied to the real thing.
The stock market eats its own tail
The lineup is basically a greatest-hits album of U.S. mega caps: Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Alphabet, Tesla, Meta, Amazon, Netflix, Circle, SpaceX, Strategy, and Palantir. That’s a lot of household names for one product drop, which helps explain why SECZ got a jolt in after-hours trading.
- SECZ jumped 9.92% to $13.92 after hours
- The stock closed Thursday at $12.66, up 11.05% on the day
- Management says the product will be available to eligible investors in the U.S., EU, and other permitted jurisdictions
Big picture
This isn’t just a shiny crypto experiment. It’s another sign that traditional assets and blockchain rails are getting increasingly cozy. If tokenized stocks catch on, Securitize could be angling for a bigger slice of the market’s future plumbing instead of just another flashy fintech headline.
