A nicer-looking report card
Humana just got a fresh set of CMS Star Ratings for 2027, and the scorecard looks better than before. The company says 95% of its Medicare Advantage members are enrolled in plans rated 4.0 stars or higher, and 42% are in 4.5-star plans.
For a Medicare Advantage insurer, these ratings are basically the adult version of getting gold stars on your homework. Higher ratings can help with bonus payments, marketing, and member retention — the kind of stuff that can make or break the vibe for the business.
Why investors care
Humana has been under the microscope on Medicare Advantage economics, so any improvement here is not just a pat on the back. It can support enrollment trends and ease some of the pressure around plan quality and profitability.
And yes, this comes with a little déjà vu: the company’s 2027 plan commentary and legal noise have already been part of the recent Humana story. But this update is the cleaner, shinier part of the narrative.
Big picture: in Medicare, better ratings are a lot like better customer reviews on Yelp — except the stakes are way higher and the spreadsheets are uglier.
