Spooky season, but make it electric
Rivian is trying on a little Halloween costume of its own. The company teamed up with Sony Pictures for a Ghostbusters collaboration that brings themed software updates to the R1S, R1T, and R2, plus a one-off customized Ecto-1 Rivian and a commercial featuring Bill Murray reprising Dr. Peter Venkman.
The features run from Oct. 9 through Nov. 2, which is a pretty good window if you’re the type who thinks your truck should also do party tricks. Think scavenger hunts, lights, sounds, and a little movie-franchise nostalgia sprinkled over Rivian’s lineup.
Why investors should care
On its own, this is not exactly a Wall Street earthshaker. But Rivian has been trying to show that it’s more than a company that makes expensive batteries on wheels. Marketing moments like this help keep the brand sticky, especially as the cheaper R2 gets more attention and the company works to turn curiosity into actual buyers.
The bigger picture
Rivian has already posted strong third-quarter deliveries and is headed toward its full-year target, so this is less about survival mode and more about staying culturally relevant while the product pipeline matures. Big picture: if you can make an EV feel fun instead of appliance-like, that’s a decent party trick in a brutally competitive market.
