The AI train keeps pulling
Lumentum is basically telling the market: “We’re not the bottleneck’s bottleneck — we are the bottleneck.” The company said demand for some optical components will exceed supply through 2028, which is catnip for investors trying to price in years of AI infrastructure spending.
Why the stock is sprinting
When a supplier says customers want more than it can currently make, Wall Street hears a few things at once:
- revenue visibility looks sturdier
- pricing power may improve
- peers in optical networking can get dragged higher too
That’s why Lumentum’s shares popped, along with other names in the optical networking lane. Everyone wants a piece of the AI buildout, and apparently the fiber-optic plumbing is still very much the sexy part of the story.
The catch
Demand being hot is great. Keeping up with it is the hard part. If supply stays tight for years, Lumentum will need to juggle manufacturing, customer commitments, and expansion without turning the growth party into an operational headache.
Big picture: this is another reminder that the AI boom isn’t just about chips and chatbots — it’s also about the unglamorous hardware that moves the data around.
