The setup got a little awkward
NVIDIA was trading lower on Friday even as the broader market flexed, and that’s rarely the vibe you want when a stock is trying to look invincible. The problem: it briefly punched above $235, then backed off fast enough to make traders wonder if this was a real breakout or just a fake-out in a shiny blazer.
Bull trap? That’s the worry
Freedom Capital Markets strategist Jay Woods said the retreat could be a bull trap — trader-speak for “congrats, you bought the top of a move that didn’t stick.” He flagged $215 to $220 as the downside zone if sellers keep pushing, and said NVIDIA would need two or three closes above $240 to convince him the breakout is legit. If that happens, he sees a path to $270.
The longer-term story is still intact
Woods wasn’t exactly pounding the table against the stock. He still likes NVIDIA’s fundamentals and says the valuation looks attractive versus its growth. So this is less “the AI dream is dead” and more “the market may need to stop pretending every green candle is destiny.”
Investors are also looking ahead to NVIDIA’s next earnings report, which the article says is tentatively set for Nov. 18. Wall Street is still leaning bullish, with analysts expecting EPS of $2.38 on revenue of $104.19 billion.
ETFs are along for the ride
The piece also notes that NVIDIA has chunky weightings in funds like GSLC, TRFK, and ILDR, which means NVDA’s mood swings can spill into those ETFs too. Big picture: NVIDIA is still the market’s favorite GPU giant, but even favorites can trip over their own shoelaces when momentum gets too hot.
