New face, same Cisco
Cisco is bringing Girish Rishi onto its board of directors, effective October 9th. Rishi has spent roughly three decades in tech leadership, with experience spanning data and AI, product development, supply chain, and M&A — basically the corporate Swiss Army knife resume.
Why investors should care
Board appointments usually don’t move a stock like an earnings miss or a surprise deal, but they can still matter. Directors help shape strategy, and Cisco is clearly signaling which muscles it wants to flex more: AI, execution, and dealmaking.
The not-so-secret subtext
If you’re Cisco, bringing in someone with this mix of experience says, “We’d like fewer buzzwords and more actual roadmaps, please.” That can be especially relevant as the company keeps trying to look more like a modern infrastructure/software platform and less like the networking giant you remember from old office closets full of blinking boxes.
Big picture: this is a governance move, not a cannonball into the market — but it does give Cisco a little more strategic seasoning at the board table.
