Bonds, but make it spicy
JPMorgan is effectively telling investors: the credit market might be handing out a rare bargain. Priya Misra, the firm’s portfolio manager, says taking on credit risk in high-quality companies could be a once-in-a-generation opportunity.
That’s Wall Street speak for: the yield spread may be attractive enough that you don’t need to go hunting for fireworks in sketchy corners of the market. Instead, the pitch is to lean into solid names and get paid more than you might expect for the risk.
Why this matters
For investors, this is a reminder that the boring stuff can suddenly become the interesting stuff.
- If spreads stay compelling, high-quality debt could look a lot better than cash.
- If the economy wobbles, the “high-quality” part starts to matter a whole lot more.
- And if more big money starts shifting into credit, it can support bond prices while changing the risk/reward math across fixed income.
Big picture: sometimes the best trade isn’t the flashiest one — it’s the one that lets you sleep at night and still collect a decent yield.
