Two pipeline wins, one happier Monday
Bristol Myers Squibb came out swinging with not one but two Phase 3 readouts, and the market did what it always does when biotech news smells like progress: it sent the stock higher. Shares jumped more than 4% premarket after the company said both programs showed meaningful signs of life.
RayzeBio’s rare-disease flex
First up was RYZ101, a RayzeBio asset inside BMS, which hit its primary endpoint in the ACTION-1 trial. The drug showed a clinically meaningful and statistically significant improvement in progression-free survival for patients with gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors who had already burned through prior Lutetium-177-based therapy. In plain English: the medicine kept the disease from getting worse longer than placebo, and that’s the kind of data that can open the door to regulators.
BMS also pointed out that safety lined up with the drug’s established profile, which is biotech-speak for “nothing weird showed up and scared everyone away.” The company says it plans to talk with regulators about the next steps for a formal submission.
A lung-disease bright spot too
Then there’s admilparant, which posted positive topline efficacy and safety results in ALOFT-IPF, a Phase 3 study in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. A 60 mg dose twice daily improved forced vital capacity at Week 52 versus placebo with statistical significance, while the higher 120 mg dose slowed decline but missed statistical significance. Translation: the lower dose looked like the star of the show, and the higher dose was more of a solid understudy.
The company still has a second pulmonary fibrosis study running, with topline results expected in early 2027. That means BMS has more pipeline catalysts ahead, which is the biotech version of keeping a few more chips on the table.
Big picture
For investors, this is the sort of news that can re-rate a pharma name fast: two late-stage wins, two different disease areas, and a reminder that BMS still has more than just its old blockbuster franchise to lean on. Pipeline credibility is stock-price rocket fuel when the market is in a good mood.
