The ETH vacuum cleaner is almost full
Bitmine Immersion Technologies just added 12,532 more Ethereum to the pile, bringing its stash to 6,028,946 ETH. At the company’s latest stated value, that works out to 4.9% of all ETH in existence — which is awfully close to Tom Lee’s 5% line in the sand.
So what happens at 5%?
Lee has said Bitmine will stop buying once it hits that cap, meaning the company is basically sprinting toward its own finish line. Based on last week’s pace, it’s roughly six to seven weeks away from slamming on the brakes, assuming the buying doesn’t speed up or slow down like a teenager learning to drive.
The bigger crypto bull case
This wasn’t just a balance-sheet flex. In Bitmine’s October Chairman’s Message, Lee argued the next crypto cycle could be powered by tokenization, wealth transfer, digital asset treasuries soaking up supply, and crypto’s role as an AI-adjacent trade. He even pointed to Robinhood’s Vlad Tenev talking about $100 trillion changing hands over the coming years — the kind of number that makes your average retirement account sound like pocket change.
Why investors are watching
For shareholders, the headline is simple: Bitmine is moving closer to the end of a major accumulation program, and that’s a huge signal about how management views ETH. Big-picture: when a public company starts acting like a supply sponge and then hints it may stop, the market tends to pay attention — because fewer buy orders can mean a very different setup for both the stock and the token.
