Rare disease, rare good news
Regeneron is back with another clinical readout, and this one’s about Pasatru (garetosmab-grts) in adults with fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva, or FOP — the ultra-rare disease where soft tissue can turn into bone. During the OPTIMA trial extension, the company says patients saw zero new heterotopic ossification (HO) lesions. That’s the kind of headline that makes a biotech team high-five and a patient community breathe a little easier.
Why investors care
For a drug in a disease this brutal, “zero new lesions” is the sort of number that can move the story from interesting to investable. It doesn’t guarantee approval, blockbuster sales, or even a straight line to victory, but it does help build the case that Regeneron has more than one shot on goal outside its established franchises.
The biotech playbook, but with higher stakes
Biotech investing is basically a long-running game of “show me the data,” and rare-disease programs can punch above their weight if the clinical signals are strong enough. Regeneron has been stacking encouraging readouts lately, and Pasatru adds another brick to that wall.
- The disease: FOP, a devastating condition with very limited treatment options.
- The readout: no new HO lesions during the OPTIMA extension.
- The investor angle: more evidence that Regeneron’s pipeline is still producing meaningful shots on net.
Big picture: this is the kind of update that doesn’t just sound good in a press release — it gives investors another reason to keep Regeneron on the “watch closely” list.
