The setup
Contineum Therapeutics got caught in the crossfire Monday after Bristol Myers Squibb dropped mixed Phase 3 data for admilparant, its oral LPA1 inhibitor for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The market’s takeaway? One dose looked promising, another got the statistical shrug.
Why traders care
The 60 mg twice-daily dose slowed lung-function decline over 52 weeks, which is the kind of headline biotech investors love. But the 120 mg dose also showed benefit without clearing the statistical bar, and that’s where the mood got messy. When a drug class looks less clean than hoped, the whole basket can wobble — including Contineum, whose PIPE-791 is being tested in the same IPF lane.
The Contineum angle
William Blair said the data actually helps de-risk the broader LPAR1 story, especially around safety, since admilparant appeared well tolerated. That’s a nice spin if you’re bullish on PIPE-791, which Contineum started testing in Phase 2 in the first quarter of 2026 in about 324 IPF patients. The primary endpoint there is change in forced vital capacity through week 26.
Big picture
So yes, CTNM got smoked today — down nearly 30% — but the actual story is less “company-specific disaster” and more “biotech investors are squinting at a mixed signal and deciding to hit sell first, ask questions later.”
