Looking for advice I recently rebalanced my retirement with Vanguard’s ETFS. Does anyone have any recommendations on some other ETFs that would provide income and growth. I set aside 100K to invest in some. Give me a general list and the reasons for the selection to help me decide.
Here's a curated shortlist of income + growth ETFs that complement a Vanguard core portfolio well:
| Label | 1Y Return % | YTD Return % |
|---|---|---|
| SCHD | 27.04 | 14.05 |
| VYM | 30.14 | 8.03 |
| DGRO | 26.51 | 5.11 |
| VIG | 23.82 | 3.09 |
| JEPI | 15.19 | 2.01 |
| Ticker | Name | Focus | Expense Ratio | AUM | 1Y Return | Why Consider It |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SCHD | Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity | Income + Quality | 0.06% | $87.5B | +27% | High yield + dividend quality screen; strong Healthcare & Consumer Defensive tilt |
| VYM | Vanguard High Dividend Yield | Income | 0.04% | $88.8B | +30% | Broadest diversification (589 holdings), ultra-low cost, Vanguard-family complement |
| JEPI | JPMorgan Equity Premium Income | High Income | 0.35% | $45.3B | +15% | Covered-call strategy generates elevated monthly income; lower upside in bull markets |
| VIG | Vanguard Dividend Appreciation | Growth + Income | 0.04% | $117B | +24% | Dividend growers (not just high yielders); strong Tech & Financials; lower yield, higher growth |
| DGRO | iShares Core Dividend Growth | Balanced | 0.08% | $39.3B | +27% | Similar to VIG but slightly higher yield; 394 holdings across all major sectors |
Key distinctions to help you decide:
Since you already have Vanguard exposure, mixing SCHD (quality income) with VIG (dividend growth) is a common pairing that avoids heavy overlap while covering both income and appreciation goals.
Would you like me to run a portfolio optimization across these five to suggest a model allocation for your $100K?
